Abstract

We determine the exact asymptotic many-body wavefunction of a spin-$s$ Richardson-Gaudin model with a coupling inversely proportional to time, for time evolution starting from the ground state at $t = 0^+$ and for arbitrary $s$. Contrary to common belief, the resulting wavefunction cannot be derived from the spin-$1/2$ case by merging spins, but instead requires independent treatment for each spin size. The steady state is non-thermal and, in contrast to the spin-$1/2$ case, does not conform to a natural Generalized Gibbs Ensemble. We show that mean-field theory is exact for any product of a finite number of spin operators on different sites. We discuss how these findings can be probed in cavity QED and trapped ion experiments.

Unitary matrix integrals, symmetric polynomials, and long-range random walks

Ward L. Vleeshouwers [1,2], Vladimir Gritsev [1]

Abstract

Unitary matrix integrals over symmetric polynomials play an important role in a wide variety of applications, including random matrix theory, gauge theory, number theory, and enumerative combinatorics. We derive novel results on such integrals and apply these and other identities to correlation functions of long-range random walks (LRRW) consisting of hard-core bosons. We generalize an identity due to Diaconis and Shahshahani which computes unitary matrix integrals over products of power sum polynomials. This allows us to derive two expressions for unitary matrix integrals over Schur polynomials, which can be directly applied to LRRW correlation functions. We then demonstrate a duality between distinct LRRW models, which we refer to as quasi-local particle-hole duality. We note a relation between the multiplication properties of power sum polynomials of degree $n$ and fermionic particles hopping by $n$ sites. This allows us to compute LRRW correlation functions in terms of auxiliary fermionic rather than hard-core bosonic systems. Inverting this reasoning leads to various results on long-range fermionic models as well. In principle, all results derived in this work can be implemented in experimental setups such as trapped ion systems, where LRRW models appear as an effective description. We further suggest specific correlation functions which may be applied to the benchmarking of such experimental setups.

Symmetry-protected coherent relaxation of open quantum systems

Moos van Caspel [1], Vladimir Gritsev [1,2]

Abstract

We compute the effect of Markovian bulk dephasing noise on the staggered magnetization of the spin-1/2 XXZ Heisenberg chain, as the system evolves after a Néel quench. For sufficiently weak system-bath coupling, the unitary dynamics are found to be preserved up to a single exponential damping factor. This is a consequence of the interplay between $\mathbb{PT}$ symmetry and weak symmetries, which strengthens previous predictions for $\mathbb{PT}$-symmetric Liouvillian dynamics. Requirements are a non-degenerate $\mathbb{PT}$-symmetric generator of time evolution $\hat{\mathcal{L}}$, a weak parity symmetry and an observable that is anti-symmetric under this parity transformation. The spectrum of $\hat{\mathcal{L}}$ then splits up into symmetry sectors, yielding the same decay rate for all modes that contribute to the observable's time evolution. This phenomenon may be realized in trapped ion experiments and has possible implications for the control of decoherence in out-of-equilibrium many-body systems.
